December 17th, 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the Candlelight Home Tour. For thirty years we have opened our homes to showcase beautiful Old Northwood, founded in 1924 during the Florida Land Boom. The neighborhood boasts a diverse architectural history, including homes in the Mediterranean Revival Style, Bungalow Craftsman, American Foursquare, and Spanish Mission Style made famous by Addison Mizner. The well-known architect John Volk made part of his Palm Beach debut on 32nd Street. Old Northwood was West Palm Beach’s first designated historic district, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
This year’s tour will feature 12 homes and have tastings from several local restaurants. Our very own Humberto Lazo will again cater the very popular VIP party, which will feature extensive hors d’oeuvres, libations and have live music. Vendor booths will line the street near the music and ticket sales area so visitors can shop for pre-Christmas gifts. The VIP party will start at 3:30 and the homes will open their doors from 5-9pm. VIPs will have the ability to jump the lines at each home.
A special addition to this year’s event will be the Historian’s Tour. We are selling a limited number of tickets for a trolley tour through the neighborhood guided by a local historian. Important homes and architectural features will be pointed out and, of course, there will be colorful stories!
